The following is taken in part from the AVSA Handbook For African Violet Growers, Exhibitors, and Judges.
A small standard violet should reach at least 8 to 10 inches in diameter. The foliage should grow straight out form the center of the plant to the edge of the outer leaves. Each row of leaves should overlap the row below without gaps or spaces in the rows or between the individual leaves in a row caused by missing leave or poor culture.
