* Exported from MasterCook * Joanna's Sausage and Kraut Recipe By : Serving Size : 0 Preparation Time :0:00 Categories : Sausages Slow Cooker Tried And Ture Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 1 bag sauerkraut (from deli or meat section) -- (32 oz) 1/2 cup packed brown sugar 1 large onion -- chopped 1 pounds Polish sausage -- (1 to 2) 1 teaspoon caraway seeds (optional) Place sauerkraut in colander and rinse well with cold water. squeeze dry. Place in a large bowl. Add brown sugar, onion, and seeds, if desired. Mix well until kraut is a delicate caramel color. Place kraut mixture in a greased crockpot. Slice the sausage into large chunks and place on top of kraut. (I leave the hot dog whole.) Cook on low for about 6-8 hours. If feasible, stir about half-way through cooking, but it will do just fine without stirring. Serve with mashed potatoes.
